Traffic Violations and Infractions

We have extensive experience defending clients faced with all categories of felony and misdemeanor criminal and traffic offenses, and regularly practice throughout courts in Northern Virginia and the Shenandoah Valley. We also practice in many other state courts throughout the Commonwealth and in Maryland, as well as in federal court in the Eastern District of Virginia in Alexandria. Our traffic defense practice have earned the respect of peers, prosecutors, judges, and clients in Virginia’s and Maryland’s state and federal courts.

A conviction for a traffic infraction can result in higher insurance premiums and, in some cases, negatively affect the status of your driver's license. Some traffic violations constitute criminal conduct – for example, reckless driving and driving on a suspended license are class 1 misdemeanors in Virginia. The maximum punishment for such offenses is one year in jail, a $2,500.00 fine, and suspension of your license. Accordingly, we approach the representation of clients charged with traffic violations, whether they be infractions or misdemeanors, as we would any other criminal charge. We explore all possible defenses and give advice about the potential outcome of the case in light of the client’s unique facts and circumstances. When feasible, we recommend proactive measures which are in the client’s legal and therapeutic best interests in an effort to mitigate the statutory penalties for the offense. As Deputy Town Attorney and prosecutor for the Town of Herndon, our clear understanding of the expectations and strategies of prosecutors is invaluable in shaping our client's unique defense.

We regularly defend clients in all categories of traffic offenses, including but not limited to:

  • Speeding
  • Reckless, aggressive, and improper driving
  • DUI and DWI, both alcohol- and drug-related cases
  • Driving on a suspended license
  • Driving without a valid operator's license
  • Motor vehicle accidents involving damage to a person or property
  • Failure to obey a highway sign or signal
  • Failure to stop
  • Failure to yield
